Suction Side Driven: Water being drawn from the pool from either the pools skimmer or a dedicated plumbing line connected to the suction side of the pools recirculating pump. The cleaner is driven by a mechanism that is powered by the water drawn through the cleaner and sucking up debris at the same time. Which Cleaner is Best? Not so much as to which cleaner is best but, more to which cleaner is best for your particular pool and the environment in which the pool is located.
With the above factors in mind, you will be able to better evaluate the suitability of the three main types of automatic inground pool cleaners. These three categories include suctionside, pressureside and robotic cleaners. Starting with suctionside automatic pool models for inground swimming pools, these units attach to your pools skimmer or designated cleaning line and operate off the existing suction. This suction not only allows the automatic vacuums to vacuum up debris, it also provides the power needed for the units to mobilize around the pool.
My oh my where do I begin? Ill try not to give my age away here but, I remember when Kreepy Kraulys were one of the first automatic pool cleaners on the market. Infact in 1974 the very first models were actually made of wood and rubber tubing. People lucky enough to have had one of those Pinochio Bots absolutley loved them. Ive heard stories from folks (my grandfather of course) who desperately tried to keep them operational by using coat hangers, duct tape and glue. Kreepy Kraulys were actually sold door to door at one time. Their salespeople were quite clever in the presentation or should I say demonstration.
They require a dedicated line for suction or a skimmer outlet is used. They are very good cleaners and can pick up very fine debris in a swimming pool. No separate pump to operate no extra time clock can all relate to more money in parts and higher energy cost. However I feel their not very good in a pool with a large amount of pool debris. The leaves that get sucked up go to a separate canister or to the pool pump basket. The other down side is most tend to do well only in a pool with no deep end more of an even depth such as a play pool.
As inground cleaners have been a standard accessory for swimming pools for several decades, it should come as no surprise that there is a wide range of choices available to you. All automatic inground pool cleaners fall into one of 3 basic categories: suctionside, pressureside, and robotic inground cleaners. These inground cleaners connect to your inground pool suction ports. Usually youll install it using the skimmer port but you may have a dedicated vacuum port for your inground pool cleaner.
